General Information This spring I will be embarking on a four and a half month, 2,600 mile, journey on the Pacific Crest Trail. While on the trail I will be living out of my pack, picking up re-rations at post offices along the way, wandering off trail, sleeping under the stars, and slogging up snow fields. This hike has been done by many people before me and while I expect to be challenged along the way, reaching Canada is only one of my goals for the summer. My second goal is to raise $12,300 for three institutions that have provided me years of valuable education and support in my outdoor pursuits. Preparing physically for the trip has been a highlight of my fall and winter. Much to my surprise, I now prefer walking (especially with a loaded backpack) to running, and of course cross-country skiing ranks high as part of my daily workouts. I have also started daily practice of a rigorous form of yoga (astanga yoga) to improve my joint strength, sense of balance, and flexibility. Logistically I have gone over the route, taken lots of notes from the Pacific Crest Trail Association list serve, and kept a running tally of food and gear ideas. I have worked out a comfortable lightweight system of gear and food with my pack weighing in just under 25 lbs. If you are interested in knowing more, please contact me at:
